Amelie, or ‘Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain’ if you speak francais, is a wonderfully colourful and heartwarming tale of a young parisian waitress in the late 1990s. The Film follows Amelie as she decides to mischievously spring happiness into the lives that surround her. Set in a small cafe in Montmarte, we see how a small eccentric group of people are effected by Amelie’s love and affection for them all. In turn as the story develops, Amelie strives to find love and happiness for herself after living a long and lonely childhood. The entire film is quite nuts, shifting from her early childhood struggles, her idiosyncratic romantic habits that impact everyone around her, through to her search for Nino in the Parisian backstreets. All of this has lead to us designing our very own Amelie Movie Poster, inspired by the famous film.
About Our Amelie Movie Poster
There are some fantastic colour palettes in this 2001 French classic. Jean-Pierre Jeunet‘s imagination flows from scene to scene giving the entire movie a very distinctive look and feel. Just like a Wes Anderson Movie, a keen film buff will spot a Jean-Pierre Jeunet scene from a mile away, plus the soundtrack by Yann Tiersen is beautiful and instantly recognisable. We’ve picked similar colours to match our alternative Movie poster, with greens and deep reds in the forefront. Every shot is drenched in rich colour, none more so than the evocative scene of Amelie sat up in bed, solitary but happy, busily hatching her next plot to instill happiness in those around her.
If you haven’t seen this film we strongly recommend it. It’s currently one of the highest grossing French language films of all time in the UK and US. A must watch if you want to feel romantic.
